Contemporary new build home in Islington north London
Our house on Newington Green Road in Islington is an infill building that unites 2 period terraces on a narrow site in North London. The house has featured in many a magazine article since its completion in April 2009. Typing the address into google images opens up a world of opinion.
Its a stylish, contemporary family home. Five minutes from Canonbury station (direct line to Stratford and the Olympic village) and ten minutes from Highbury and Islington tube on the Victoria line. Central london is at your fingertips. The markets of Camden and Brick lane within twenty minutes travelling time. Islington is a vibrant area filled with cafes, bars, pubs, nightlife and shopping.
Two bedrooms and Two bathrooms with an additional option of using the living room for sleeping. Stylishly furnished. Future proofed. Much of the interior work comprises contrasting surfaces and materials such as bare face plywood, exposed laminated beams and diagonally orientated floor boards. The stair is constructed in plywood and wraps around a triangular shaped void bringing daylight into every storey of the house. Its an eco house (full credentials available on request).
The design subtly references the proportions, materiality and texture of the neighbouring buildings and number 73 bus, whilst maximising the usable space of a constrained site footprint. During the planning process, the Urban Design Officer commented that it was ‘the best design for an infill development in the borough’.
The ground floor WC has wheelchair access in accordance with UK building regulations.
